Redecorate Your Front Door PEEPHOLE

We have a retro front door - original from 1950 when our house was built which has 3 elongated windows at the top to look thru so we do not have a peephole but if we did I would create my own artistic surround around the peephole. Also, you can design stuff around your light and switch plates to look interesting. (found the pic below from COLOURMEKATIE)

WHAT WE ARE GOING TO DO WITH OUR OLD PATIO LANTERNS

I love Pac Man. I still use our first gaming machine - SEGA and right now am avidly trying to beat my score on BUBSY. Great game. A few years ago an annual light show over in Europe featured this one:

We have 2 old sets of patio lanterns that I would love to create this in our backyard this summer. A friend says he has something for the yellow pac-man but just have to figure out the bad guys. This would hang from the arbour to the shed.

SOLAR STORM

For North America, the good part of a solar storm — the one that creates more noticeable auroras or Northern Lights — will peak Thursday evening. Auroras could dip as far south as the Great Lakes states or lower but a full moon will make them harder to see. Its cloudy today and raining and its the city so don't know what we will see. Hopefully it lights up the Canada Winter Games being held in Whitehorse.

Happy International Womens Day

People around the globe will join in solidarity Thursday to mark International Women’s Day, many of them uniting on bridges to call for peace, equality and an end to violence against women in war-torn countries.

The events are part of the Join Me on the Bridge campaign, the largest women’s rights campaign in the world. It started in 2010 when women from the war-torn countries of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo gathered on a bridge that connected their countries, demonstrating they could build bridges of peace and hope for the future.

Their assembly sparked a global movement, which included Afghanistan and Iraq, where women risk personal safety to stand up for peace and equality. Last year, more than 75,000 people participated in 474 international events, including Toronto.

This year, various events are planned across the city. In the west, a group will assemble from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the Humber Bridge, with candles being lit in honour of women who continue to suffer in conflict areas.

In the east end, supporters will march over the Bloor St. Viaduct from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., with banners and signs.

And downtown, the group We Talk Women will organize a rally outside Queen’s Park from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with speeches beginning at 6 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring signs in different languages.

AGO - Picasso - May - August 2012

I have been wanting to go to the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario) to the STORE since it has been redone for quite some time. The STORE has alot of neat stuff to purchase. Just found out that TDOT is showcasing Picasso: Masterpieces from the Musée National Picasso, Paris starting May 1st and you have to reserve tickets. There are 147 highlights from the Musée’s unparalleled collection, including paintings, sculptures, prints and drawings. March Break Camp for the kiddos starts Monday Mar./12th so I think we will go to the STORE during that week and also see what the kiddos have created and then for my 60th birthday week (yep, its a week long party) go see Pablo stuff. I know that there will be some Blue Period art but I have researched and cannot find if the Blue Nude will be there. That piece of art is dear to me because of Mary who had it on a Brown wall in her apt.

Memory Lane

I have quite a few sites that I have saved as bookmarks to view. Today, I would like to be sitting inside this old VW Van with some old friends -CLR, Angus/Chris, Greg, Dottie and Shelley. Used to have a ton of fun driving in Angus Mc's VW (lime green) in the late 70's. Think after I post this I will email him and see how he and Chris are doing. Just a couplah things

Got a wider slat blind for a great price at the soon to be closed Zellers (being taken over by Target - um MEH!) but it needed to fit with a whole new frame around the sides and top of the window. Good job JT - soothing pic. New cupboard in ATs room helps our little home with storage - good price too from CDN tire albeit took most of the day to build and paint inside. Another good job JT

MAKE YOUR OWN FABRIC SOFTENER

Here is what goes into it:

6 cups water
3 cups white vinegar
2 cups hair conditioner
(mmmmm citrus or vanilla - I added some patchouli oil - GROOVY)

Directions:

1 Heat up the vinegar and then heat up the conditioner for a few minutes on high in the microwave and then mix vinegar, conditioner and water in a 1 gallon container (you can make 1/2) ; stir. Do not shake it; it will cause foaming.
2 Use the same amount you normally use in a rinse cycle or spritz it on a wash cloth and throw in dryer.

Awesome SNOW SPIRALS

"So intricate and labor-intensive are Sonja Hinrichsen‘s Snow Circles and Snow Spirals that their uplifting beauty is only rivaled by their disheartening transience."

Today

Remember These - Puddin Pops

1 small box instant vanilla pudding
1 C milk
6oz vanilla yogurt (strawberry is great too)
12 medium strawberries (about 1 3/4-2 C roughly chopped)
2-3 T sugar

Remove stems from berries and pulse with 2 T sugar in a food processor until completely smooth. Taste and add more sugar if needed. You should have just over a cup of puree. Set aside. In a blender combine pudding, yogurt, and milk and blend until combined. Layer or swirl the pudding mixture with the strawberry mixture in popsicle molds and freeze until solid.

NOW GO HAVE SOME FROZEN FUN!

Floppy Disk Art - Nick Gentry

Unique idea with what to do with all those old floppy disks that you just could not part with (being also that you can paint). Love it!

MARX Tin Doll House

I got one like this around 15 years ago which is really kewl and retro 50's. I will be setting both up in the livingroom this week. BUT, I would like the actual plastic furniture to go in it. Something to look forward to collecting. I also have a wooden one that has to be built and was collecting wooden furniture for it. Anyway, just picked this one up for cheap and it is from 1968. Stuck the wood furniture in it.

STUFF I WON'T GET RID OF SUNDAY

...My small collection of The "Mother in the Kitchen" or "Prayer Lady" by Enesco which has become a hot collectible item over the years. These wonderful ladies were sold in small town department stores, gift shops and five and dimes starting from 1956 into the 1960's. Hoping to collect somemore pieces that do not cost an arm or a leg and preferably not from ebay.

JOKE FOR THE DAY!

MEMORY BOX

This morning cleaned out a drawer for "TOO MUCH STUFF" blog and found the box with $2.00 in it. CLR had sent it to me when they replaced the paper ones with BIMETALLIC (WOW - so that is what they are called) Toonies. (The $2 bill was replaced by a bimetallic coin (the "toonie") in 1996) There is a long story about this that CLR had sent me 1/2 of a two dollar bill and I lost it and I think she gave me a $2.00 bill when she was visiting here once. Albeit this may not be the right story. Senior moment!!! Here is the box and when you open it up it plays You are my sunshine (I got the box for the bill). It says INSIDE THIS BOX IS A SMALL REMINDER THAT I CARE ABOUT YOU IN A VERY BIG WAY. Hugs today to CLR! and twitching my nose like Samantha and having dinner with you at the WOLF'S DEN Restaurant, Whitehorse. (by the way - did not Matt and Cathy live out at Wolf Creek - is this near their???)

Retro Folding Rocker

On Friday drove mom to hairdresser. While she was getting her hair done, I went to Sally Ann and found a folding rocker so that we can all be comfortable watching TV in our small livingroom. Left to go pick mom up and the battery had drained cause I left the lights on. Still learning about her car (we have it now). CAA came and got me boosted while J.T. picked her up in Van. Mom came to stay for the weekend and enjoyed sitting in the RETRO ROCKER. (I remember the fabric from the late 60's to early 70's on the rocker)
