My neice just sent a few pics to me.

I am still awaiting an official pic of the wedding couple. Interesting pic of Jen and I with the word Babylon above her head (I am singing Babylon Sisters by Steely Dan). Mom looked good in my Fascinator. J.T just has to mess around.

Our youngest Shih Tzu is funny too - When he makes a mess - I sternly, in a deep slow voice - say "WHO, MADE, THIS MESSSSSSSS, IN MY HOUSE? DID YOU, MAKE THIS MESS, IN MY HOUSE?" He comes towards me growling and whining. (I am finding all these videos tonight in my saved Hotmail and thought I would revisit and share)

Sunday Homecoming Pics

SPEAKING OF PUMPKINS

I was just on the weather channel as I do alot for my PEEPS to see how their weather is - i.e. Utterson, Victoria, and Whitehorse. Anyway, the weather channel had a questionnaire as to whom had the WORLDS LARGEST PUMPKIN this year and it was Jim and Kelsey (his daughter) Bryson from Ormstown, Quebec. Apparently this pumpkin has made it to New York City and this family is being Wooed in the BIG APPLE and their pumpkin is being artistically carved. This got me wondering about my dear friend Terry Chappelle who has been growing BIG PUMPKINS for the Port Elgin Pumpkin Fest. I found out (thank you Google) that Terry is number 205 out of 1,687 entries (thereabouts) for the WORLDS LARGEST PUMPKIN and this year he came in at number 5 for his 1058.40 pumpkin at the Port Elgin Pumpkinfest. I just emailed them to see if they have a pic. STAY TUNED!

HA HA HA - PUMPKIN PIE

This weekend is our annual party at a friends place that this year is themed 'NERDS' - ANYWAY - because it is Autumn I usually make pumpkin pie. 5 years ago I made 8 pumpkin pies for the party. That was the 'WILLIE NELSON PARTY' where all dressed up with pigtails etc. Anyway, only a few like pumpkin pie. So the next year I made one and even then it was not well received. Last year I made a PLETHORA of chocolate chip brownies which were very well received. Anyway here is a pic of why pumpkin pie is - well - not so liked - LOL!

Autumn Christmas Cactus

In August on my way back from Burlington went to a Garage Sale on the Lakeshore in Oakville. The people had a ton of stuff but what got me was about 7 Christmas Cactus's in bloom. I bought one! At that time they were in bloom and then a week after it was dormant. I left it out on the deck until the end of September and then brought it in and today - October 25th, they are all in bloom again. I will next week - after the bloom is gone, no longer water and hide into darkness in the hall cupboard and then bring HER out again around a week before Christmas and Voila - She will bloom again. Fingers crossed.

I heard this song the other day and it reminds me of driving in the Autumn in the country and seeing all the beautiful colours of the season. Wish I could teleport to Utterson, Meaford or the Yukon to do this with a few friends.

Berry Tip

I do not know about you but I find that particularly raspberries go moldy. Put berries in bowl with 1 part vinegar and 10 parts water and swish them around. Drain and rinse with water again if you wish. The vinegar kills any mold spores and other bacteria that might be on the surface of the fruit - Raspberries will last a week or more, and strawberries go almost two weeks without getting moldy and soft. A Day With THE DAHLS

Spent a day with Horst and Anne. Anne had fallen the week before so we headed to the hospital and Anne got fitted with a splint. After we went to THE CHICKEN PLACE and got a ton of wings, chicken and other groceries. A great day with two great people.

I'M BACK - LET'S START WITH A RECIPE - Blueberry Muffins

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup white sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 egg
1/3 cup milk
1 cup fresh blueberries
1/2 cup white OR brown sugar
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup butter, cubed
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Grease muffin cups or line with muffin liners. Combine 1 1/2 cups flour, 3/4 cup sugar, salt and baking powder. Place vegetable oil into a 1 cup measuring cup; add the egg and enough milk to fill the cup. Mix this with flour mixture. Fold in blueberries. Fill muffin cups right to the top, and sprinkle with crumb topping mixture. To Make Crumb Topping: Mix together 1/2 cup sugar, 1/3 cup flour, 1/4 cup butter, and 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon. Mix with fork, and sprinkle over muffins before baking. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes in the preheated oven, or until done.

The garden is finally all planted including pots and planters. We are all 2 weeks late in Tdot due to the weather so while I would have had this done by the end of May, we are now on track. Now to paint outdoors whereever it needs to be freshened up and sew new stuff for the porch. Getting all this done this year means that we will not have to do it next year. Judgement Day May 21, 2011

How I found out about this was a friend gave me a world band receiver and one night around 2 months ago hooked into Harold Camping who said the world was in judgement day on May 21, 2011. I googled and researched Mr. Camping and the most common agreement is that at that time years ago Harold got kicked out of the church that he was giving wrong doctrines - At that moment in time - Harold went off. But not off enough to get a whole cult gathering that has posted his end of world signs all around the world. Unfortunately, the people who have done this are mostly the vulnerable. Nothing has been said about this until today when various medias posted - CNN etc. Poor old Harold Camping - in his late 80's is a misguided soul. Oh, and this was not the first time that he predicted the end of the world - Lord have mercy on all those that have followed him and believed his angry theology. Albeit, all things work for good and maybe some will consider the days we are in. Yet woe to those that have believed his lie and what will they do when it does not end tomorrow.

Mom's Life DVD

Met yesterday with the gentleman that is doing my Mom's Life story on DVD. We got thru my 10 page questionnaire and he brought a pic that mom had loaned him. It is a pic of dad and mom taken in September 1943. Mom would have just been preggers with my bro albeit she may not have known yet

OH WELL!!!

Was hoping to get the gardening done so as to have a relaxing long weekend yet to no avail. The clouds came in on Friday night and have brought with them bursts of rain. It does not appear that they will be leaving until the weekend which looks much more promising. I had to wear my winter coat today as it was so chilly even in my local coffee shop where the heat appears to be broken. I think I will put on my rubber boots and do something outside anyway. I saw that Victoria is getting sun soon yet colder than usual. Whitehorse is on a roll with fabulous warmer temps. Have fun gardening D.C. and CLR.

Busy time of year

We have had a bummer Spring. Alot of rain and cold but the weather has been changing and today got out and started to clean up our beautiful backyard. Each year in our back garden sanctuary, I change things up and acquire new things to make it new and interesting. Everything is coming up that I had planted years ago. I went around our garden and purged the ugly things that try to immitate others. Ever noticed that - that there are other plants that do that? They actually grow stronger and more stouter than the others. Yet, they are so easy to elliminate. Some were growing inside my Iris's - some were growing beneath the side of our flowering bushes, some just showed up in open areas - yet they were so easy to get rid of.

In saying that, there are also things that invade your life that are really easy to elliminate. Just pluck them up so that the things that are growing positively around you are nourished.

Just watching the election. Conservatives are in the lead but will they get a majority - Have to wait another 14 minutes to see when the polls close in B.C.

MAKE MONEY ON GOOGLE!

A friend of mind just emailed me and told me that they left their day job to make money for google (for a small fee) - I thought - mmmmmmmmmmmm - lets research this - What I found is that people can make money by clicking on ADs google on different sites but now their are a bunch of people out their that will help you do this and - well - that costs too - DON'T LEAVE YOUR DAY JOB! - Anyone got a heads up on this?

Note - two different forms of shofar (horn) were used in the Temple in Jerusalem: one made of Ibex horn and sounded at New Year's and during Yovel Days (Jubilee/50 years); and one made of ram's horn, and sounded on fast days.

....because Playlist will no longer allow us Cdns. to have legit rights to the songs. The special songs I made for CLR are gone now but there are other lists out there - like Mixpod, Hypster or Grooveshark - Yet, for now I am enjoying the silence.

The Royal Wedding

We got up at 6 a.m. to watch the wedding which I really enjoyed. I always have liked the song Jerusalem (which was played at the wedding) albeit my fav version was Emerson, Lake and Palmer whom CLR and I saw sing in the early 70's. (Are we over yet, the fact that someone patted us on our heads like we were dogs? - LOL!) My neice asked us to make up a name for the wedding using first a name of a grandparent, then the name of your first pet and lastly the name of the street that you were born on - My name is Lady Amy Shaughnessy of Glenlake. Hubby's is Lord Louis Tuffy of Evelyn and AT's is Lord Lorne Bubbah of Stephens. Great fun. Comment me on your name.

Anna Olson's Sour Cream Coffee Cake Recipe

Thank you Allen from Sweden for letting me know that you view the blog. ---- I have a couple of tubs of sour cream to use up and found this great recipe from Anna Olsen who is one of the best dessert makers out there.

Light or low-fat sour cream, while ideal for topping things, is not ideal in baking recipes. Use regular sour cream in all your baked goods.

Yield: 12
Ingredients- Cake
1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup sour cream
2 cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt

---Topping
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon all purpose flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup walnut pieces
1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted

Directions To Assemble
Preheat oven to 350° F. Cream butter and sugar until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, stirring well after each addition. Add vanilla and stir in sour cream. In a separate bowl, combine dry ingredients and stir into wet ingredients until just incorporated. In another bowl, combine all ingredients for topping. Scrape half of the coffee cake batter into a greased 8-inch square cake pan and level. Sprinkle half of the topping over cake and cover with remaining batter. Finish with topping and bake for 35 to 40 minutes, until a tester inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean.
Serve warm or at room temperature. Yield: 1 8-inch square cake.

The Wedding Ring Finger

I was wondering - again today - about the interesting position of the Wedding Ring. I have heard that it is the only finger that has a vein that goes to our heart and thus is a symbol of love. Albeit - there is alot whom contest this. Different cultures do not do this. For example In a traditional Jewish wedding ceremony, the groom places the ring on the bride's index finger, and not the ring finger; today the ring usually is moved to the ring finger after the ceremony and most Jewish grooms have adopted wearing a wedding ring. This tradition is because in Ancient Israel, at the time of the Talmud, the Jews believed the index finger was the most prominent of fingers. Ha - the one that points. Anyway, you can do your own googling of this tradition but today was just pondering it again!

This is not what they predicted!!!

They said 5-10 cm but if this keeps up it will be more like 20 cm. And to think that just yesterday it was green everywhere. I got the leaves off the tulips on the weekend and raked elsewhere. Ah well, hope the tulips don't mind one last snowfall. Today is the first debris pick-up and it was weird watching them pick that up in the snow.

C'est Moi

Last week got together with friends at a local Pizza joint. The joke with me is that I am a city girl. On the way home a friend took this pic of me by the Green Acres Motel. Green Acres was a sitcom in the 60's and Zsa Zsa would always say, "DAHLING I LOVE YOU BUT GIVE ME PARK AVENUE". Today, a bunch of us girls are getting together for a dinner at a friends house. I have made Bashmati/Wild Rice with Quinoa and Mushrooms, Scallion and Snow Peas. I always look forward to the dinners and all the interesting food that people bring. Retirement is good! On another note - the snow is kaput and the tulips are starting to pop up. Now the work begins out front and back dethatching the grass and more raking eventually as the twirly-gigs come down in a few weeks. I love Spring.

Today March 19th

My last post was about Libya. Today, the French, British and the U.S.A. are bombing Libya.

GAS!

All the nations around Israel are fed up with their dictatorships. Egypt just won! Libya will be another story as DAFFY GADAFFI has threatened the world about blowing up oil. Today, in TDOT, the gas prices soared - We joined Costco and get a 7 cent discount but you have to line up. Yesterday, we went and the gasline was over 40 cars going all around to the Queensway with 4 stations. YIKES. Who knows - make sure your cars are filled up to the brim these days.

I do watch the news and am so sad to hear about the devastation that just hit CHRISTCHURCH - New Zealand. They had - had an earthquake in September 2010 that was small compared to this one. Tonight these people have tents set up in their city. We sure do live in interesting times.
